The government
flagship in Metro Manila for large business conventions is the Philippine
Internatio-nal
Convention Center (PICC) on Roxas Boule-vard. Beautifully designed with the
businessman in mind, the main hall can accommodate up to 4,000 people. Smaller business
groups will find that all of the major hotels in Metro Manila, including the three newest
-- the Manila Diamond Hotel on Roxas Boulevard, the EDSA Plaza on EDSA and
the Shangri-La in Makati - also offer limited convention facilities. If you
plan to travel outside of Manila, you will find that the same business amenities are
available in most of the major provincial cities too.
In 1991 Bacolod City, in Negros
Occidental, opened the Bacolod City Crown Plaza Hotel and Convention Center.
Just
five minutes from the airport, the hotel has 112 rooms and the convention center's
ballroom accommodates up to 2,000 people. While other major cities have not yet built
convention centers, the major hotels such as the Cebu Plaza Hotel and the Cebu Midtown
Hotel in Cebu City as well as the Davao Insular Hotel in Davao City are
prepared to hold limited conventions and offer all other business services.
Bringing in your own computers and
other business machines is not a problem since most of the major hotels have both 110V
(American standard) outlets. Federal Express and DHL services most of the larger
cities and resorts throughout the nation and we also have our own local courier company ,
LBC,
which services small cities and towns. Even our telephones in the most remote areas are
direct-dial world-wide.
To assist
businessmen and business groups coming to the Philippines, in 1987 the
government created the Philippine Convention and Visitors Corporation (PCVC).
It is located on the 4th floor of Legaspi Towers, 300 Roxas Boulevard,
across the street from Cultural Center of the Philippines. Open Monday
through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM., their bilingual staff can answer any
question or help solve any problems you might have.
